Walking Daily With Christ

“May grace and peace be yours in abundance
in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.”
2 Peter 1:2

How is your daily walk with Christ?

In order to continue to find a deeper experience in prayer, there needs to be a desire in our hearts and souls to discover, or rediscover, a spiritual relationship with God that will help draw our life’s focus to Christ . . . to help find that singular focus, and help shine a small light into any darkness or brokenness so that Christ’s light may begin to warm, strengthen, heal, or mend the heart.

It’s a journey, a life-long journey—a recurrent time of discovery and self-examination—through Scripture, prayer, meditation, and time with our Lord . . . a journey discovering more about ourselves and where we are in our spiritual life with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit  . . . Each step along the way helps us to attach new meaning to something familiar, or unfamiliar . . . and to create a deeper understanding of God’s amazing grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love through Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Praying regularly is a challenge—to take a leap of faith into the arms of Christ—to believe and know He will take care of you, walk beside you, carry you when you are too tired to go on, and be with you every step of your walk together.

Our journey through life, walking with Christ, is a lifelong spiritual path of continuous progression, companionship, and growth guided by faith in Jesus . . . It involves each of us actively following his teachings, surrendering to His will, and seeking His guidance through prayer and scripture . . . a deep, personal relationship with Christ, even amidst life's challenges, is a critical aspect of this journey . . . the goal is to live a more Christ-like life . . . The ultimate goal, or destination, of this faithful journey is eternal life.

INSIGHT . . .

So . . . What does it mean to walk with Christ?

Walking with Christ is living a life in close fellowship with Jesus, surrendering your daily life to him,  and following His example . . . This deeper relationship involves a continuous, step-by-step rapport rooted in faith, obedience, and spiritual growth . . . It’s also built upon moment-by-moment awareness that our actions are for His purpose and glory.

It means living out your faith day by day, not just on specific days of the week or holidays . . . by patterning your life after Jesus's teachings and example—which involves a personal and continuous relationship with Jesus, and growing in your love and understanding of Him . . . This necessitates constant communication with Christ through prayer, listening for His voice, and reading the Bible.

It means taking steps of faith, trusting the “Guide” more than trusting the road we see ahead.

“Jesus looked at them intently and said, ‘Humanly speaking, it is impossible.
But with God everything is possible.’”
Matthew 19:26

Life is a journey we were never meant to walk alone . . . walking daily with Christ opens up all kinds of possibilities in your life, including a growing relationship with the “Guide” who cares about you.

INVITATION—TO TALK WITH GOD . . .

“Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”
1 John 2:6

A lot of Christians make the initial decision to believe in Christ, even trust in Christ, but don’t go far enough into the relationship with Him to experience all the benefits of salvation through Christ . . . Way too many Christians have grown lax, even careless in their faith and walk with Jesus . . . but you don’t have to be one of them . . . a relationship with God, walking daily with Christ is a choice.

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord,
you must continue to follow him.
Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.
Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught,
and you will overflow with thankfulness.”
Colossians 2:6-7

What does God see as He looks at your life and your walk with Christ?

Ask Christ . . . What are you doing right and what is something that you need to change?

ILLUMINATION . . .

Picture a fountain in your mind . . . it can be large or small, indoors or out . . . the bubbling water
spilling into the next vessel, the freshness of the spray, the sound of renewal that comes with
the cleansing water.

Close your eyes . . . can you still hear it?

You believe it is there, even if you cannot see it . . . it’s there—because of past pictures, experiences, descriptions . . . you have faith in the existence of the fountain even if there is not one in the room with you.

Now look closely at some of your blessings . . . you have faith that these blessings exist . . . you have seen them with you own eyes—with all of your senses . . . laughter, a sunrise, a friends concerns and prayers for you, time in quiet, the flickering flame of a candle, snow cleansing a muddy landscape . . . you know these blessings inside out.

So have faith that the One who provides them also exists . . . and He is walking with you right now . . . Believe in the unseen! He believes in you!

“For we live by faith, not by sight;  we live by believing and not by seeing.”
2 Corinthians 5:7

Reflect on the blessings God has placed on your heart . . . He wants you to cherish and appreciate each one . . . Each blessing provides a spark of positive energy, if you let it.

INSPIRATION—PRAYING THROUGH MUSIC . . .

“Some of the greatest sermons that have ever been preached
were preached by the singing of a song.”
(Spencer W. Kimball)

I encourage you to take time to listen to one or both of the songs below . . . there is no right or wrong style of music—it is what speaks to you . . . listen to the melody and the lyrics and feel the response of your heart to what God wants you to hear . . . and I do understand that music doesn’t speak to everyone . . . and that is okay too.

INTO EACH DAY AHEAD . . .

The quality of our walk with Christ is not grounded on anything we do . . . no amount of Christian activity will change that . . . Christ comes into our life as Savior and friend . . . He is the One who walks with us despite how we look, how we behave, or how much we ruin His reputation for “hanging out” with us . . . The only thing that changes our lives and changes us is the presence of Christ in our lives.

"How's your walk with Christ ?" . . . If you’re walking with Christ, if He is present in your life,  your life is actually pretty fantastic . . . You're walking with Jesus!  . . . We fall, He picks us up . . . We run off or hide, He chases us down . . . He goes with us to places He should never have to go, but He never leaves us alone . . . He proudly walks with us, and never acts embarrassed of us . . . He just loves us.

Our walk with Christ isn't dependent upon us, because in every way we fall, get sidetracked, roll around in the mud, get lost or confused, really mess up . . . Jesus still walks in perfection with us, and for us, and never gives up on us.

“Jesus said, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
John 14:6

Sometimes it is hard to keep focus, or a good hold, on the positive energy that is found in walking daily with Christ . . . When this becomes a struggle, or the negative energy wants to sneak in—LOOK UP! . . . at the ceiling, the sky, the clouds, the stars . . . focus upward and when you lift your head, relax your shoulders and remind yourself . . .

I believe in God the Father ~ I believe in Christ the Son ~ I believe in the Holy Spirit

“The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you.’”
Psalm 32:8

How's your walk with Christ?

Do you trust in the life Christ offers if you walk with Him?

Will you live so others know you believe in Christ,
so that you can share God, and help others to believe too?

Lord, we thank you for your grace and mercy.
We pray for the strength to walk faithfully with you, even when we stumble.
Please guide our steps and order our path according to your will.
Help us to walk by faith and not by sight, and to put our trust in only you.
And help us to live in a way that is worthy of you.—Amen
